Nancy Campbell for State House District 11
The Candidate
I am a qualified candidate for this seat as I have been a resident of this district for 32 years, am a United States Citizen, Alaskan resident since 1973 and have maintained my status as a registered Republican voter.
I am a lifelong Republican and vote on a regular basis in our elections.
My reason for applying for this seat is I am an avid political activist and have been for the past 20 years. I have traveled to Juneau during the legislative sessions since 1997; organizing support for both the legislature and the governor’s office. I have sat in on many Committee meetings during this time; followed bills; and opened the sessions as a chaplain.
In 2002, when the district lines were redrawn, I ran for the open House Seat along with five other Republicans. It was my first bid for public office and I did really well, coming close to a win. With five others in the primary race, the vote was split between the second and third place candidates and Rep. Carl Gatto was elected to the seat.
Since that time, I have been encouraged by many legislators and also people within our district to run again. My statement to them was I would not run against my representative and if an opportunity opened later, I would give it consideration. As my Representative Shelly Hughes is now running for Senator Stoltze’s seat, a door has opened for me to pursue.
During my frequent trips to Juneau, I have always visited with our Valley delegation and kept up on current issues in our district. I am a pro-life conservative and believe in developing our natural resources to move our state forward.
I am well known in the legislature and have many friends there due to my years of support for them and their endeavors. I have been a citizen lobbyist through five governors beginning with Governor Knowles to our present Governor Bill Walker.
I am very confident and bold when speaking with them regarding concerns I have for our state and its future and they respect my opinions and advice. My working relationship with the legislators will be an asset for our district as we labor together for the future of Alaska.
I would appreciate your vote in the primary on August 16th.
Sincerely,
Nancy M. Campbell
